Minimums and cash balance requirements for HSA investments with the in-app experience

Overview

In-app investments

A built-in investment experience inside the Benepass app that lets you view balances, set allocations, and track performance without leaving Benepass.

Benepass offers a built-in way to invest funds in your Health Savings Account (HSA).

Who has access?

In-app investments are available when your HSA is connected to the in-app experience.

What to know

Investments are set up so you always keep a portion of your HSA available as cash for spending on eligible health expenses.

  • You must keep at least $100 in your HSA cash balance after transferring money to investments.

  • You can transfer $25 or more to your investment account at a time.

  • Because of these two requirements, you’ll need at least $125 in your HSA cash balance to make a $25 investment transfer. The $125 is not a separate investment minimum; it represents the $100 that must remain in cash plus the minimum $25 transfer.

Example

If you have $125 in your HSA cash balance, you can transfer $25 to investments and keep the required $100 available as cash.

If you have $115 in your HSA cash balance, you won’t be able to make an investment transfer yet. Although your balance is above $100, the minimum transfer is $25, which would bring your remaining cash balance below the required $100.
